Satellite telemetry is the Lynx module for remote assets with no coverage, over the Iridium satellite network. The field unit reading enters the platform as any other measurement —with its series, its charts and its alarms— and a specific reading can be requested from the screen to a station on the other side of the world.

What it solves Assets that matter, where there is no network at all
A gauging station at the headwater of a river, a tank in the middle of a field, a buoy, an isolated solar array, a measuring point high in the mountains. With no fibre, no mobile and no radio, the usual alternative is to send someone to read it, or to go without the data.
Nobody in the middle From the field unit to the time series
The unit transmits over the Iridium constellation, which covers the entire surface of the planet, poles and oceans included. The message leaves the unit, the Iridium gateway delivers it to Lynx over DirectIP, and there it is decoded and stored as one more platform measurement.

A hydrological installation of four stations —rain gauge and level sensor on dataloggers transmitting over satellite— has been in production with this module for years. In one month of service it received over 9,000 messages.
Why the unit transmits The decision to transmit is taken by the unit in the field
Every message states why it was sent, and the colour coding of the list separates what the unit itself flagged as an alarm from what arrived unconfirmed.
- Scheduled transmission
The periodic report from the unit, alarm or no alarm. It also tells you the station is still alive.
- Rise in the magnitude
The reading climbs more than programmed within the time window configured in the unit.
- Fall in the magnitude
A drop also warrants an alert: in a watercourse, flow below the minimum matters as much as a flood.
- Value out of range
The reading leaves the band the unit has programmed, above or below.
- Episode continuation
The unit keeps transmitting while the episode lasts, without repeating the initial alert.
- Manual request
The answer to a specific reading requested from the module screen.

Today those thresholds live in the head of whoever went out to program the unit, and the last reading from that station is as old as the last trip out there.
What is going on there One click, the full state of a measuring point
Modem identifier, coordinates, how many messages it has sent in the period, a breakdown by event type and the table of all its magnitudes with the date and value of the last reading of each.
- Identified by the modem IMEIEach unit enters the platform by the IMEI of its satellite modem, and each magnitude by the tag travelling in the message. There is no lookup table for someone to maintain by hand.
- The breakdown tells you if there is an episodeThe messages of the period split by the reason that triggered them. A split loaded with continuations is a station that has been in an episode for days; one with scheduled transmissions only, a quiet station.

Seven days, no trip Every value of every message is a point on a series
The chart opens from the event itself and the evolution reads off it, with shortcuts for 6 and 12 hours, one day, three days and a week. The one on screen is a week of river level rebuilt from the satellite messages alone.

Times are shown in the time zone of the measuring point, not that of whoever is looking at the screen. A rainfall episode reads with the local time of the river.
- A trend sparkline on every event
Each row of the list carries the trend of its magnitude, to see the shape of the episode without opening the chart.
- The same charts as everywhere else
It is the Lynx chart, not a separate viewer: same periods, same downloads and same behaviour as on any other series in the platform.
Real time and requests The event arrives without reloading, and the station can be asked
When a unit transmits, the event appears on screen with its alert and already resolved to the station name. And the flow is not inbound only: pick the station and the magnitude, and a satellite message goes out with the command its firmware understands. That is the difference between waiting for the next scheduled transmission and knowing now how a point you are worried about is doing.
A satellite message will be sent to the station asking for the selected measurement. Each message has a cost.

Every request incurs a cost
- Real time can be switched off
With the switch off the list does not move and only the count of new messages waiting is shown. It exists so you do not lose what you were reading in the middle of a rainfall episode.

Every satellite message is paid for, and the interface says so on the screen itself before sending, instead of hiding it.
- Audited, and with a dry-run mode
Every request is recorded with a snapshot of how the station and the data type were configured when it was made, so that months later it is known what was asked and with what parameters. The full flow can be exercised without spending a message, for training or to validate a deployment.
Fit within the platform It is Lynx data, not a silo with a screen of its own
Once inside, the satellite reading enters Analytics, the charts, the reports and the alarm engine like any other measurement.
